Environmental Document

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has prepared an Initial Study with Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration(IS MND)/Environmental Assessment(EA), which examines the potential environmental impacts of the proposed 58 Truck Climbing Lane project located in Kern County, California. Caltrans is the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act as well as the National Environmental Policy Act. This document explains why the project is being proposed, the existing environment that could be affected by the project, potential impacts of each of the alternatives, and the proposed avoidance and minimization measures.

Caltrans has evaluated the potential for impacts to the environment, and has made a draft determination that, overall, the project would have no significant impact to the environment with mitigation measures incorporated.
